Layoffs and free coaching
I have already written about the process of analyzing and planning a layoff and also about how to see a layoff with a glass-half-full eye. I have been following the announcements of mass layoffs and the numbers from Layoffs Brasil and Layoffs.fyi. March numbers show some drop from February.
Brazil:
- March: 22 companies and 1,676 people laid off
- February: 37 companies and 3,226 people laid off
- February was the worst month in the last 15 months
World:
- March: 115 companies and 37,077 people laid off
- February: 175 companies and 39,031 people laid off
- January was the worst month in the last 15 months
Keep in mind that these numbers are reported by people and companies, so they may be incomplete.
Despite the drop in the number of layoffs in March, the first quarter of 2023 was, according to figures from these two sites, the worst quarter since January 2020:
Brazil: 76 companies and 6,834 people laid off
World: 561 companies and 165.622 people laid off
That is, despite March being a little better, we just went through the worst quarter in terms of mass layoffs in technology companies.
